Celebrating the Caregivers: Nurses and Health Workers Appreciation Day at Accra Psychiatric Hospital

On 2nd August 2025, the Little Angels Trust team had the honor of celebrating a group of professionals whose work often goes unseen but whose impact is deeply felt—the nurses and health workers at the Children’s Department of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

This special day was born out of a desire to recognize and appreciate the selfless men and women who have chosen to serve in one of the most challenging yet crucial fields in healthcare—mental health, particularly in the care of children. Their dedication, compassion, and resilience form the backbone of support for the children and families we serve, and we believe such commitment deserves more than silent admiration. It deserves celebration.

To mark the occasion, our team visited the hospital bearing a small but heartfelt token of our appreciation—food, drinks, and water—meant to refresh and uplift the caregivers who pour so much of themselves into their work each day. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how meaningful this gesture was. The nurses welcomed us warmly, and their expressions of gratitude reminded us why these acts of kindness are so important.

While a meal may seem simple, the intention behind it was profound: to say thank you—not just for what they do, but for who they are. These health workers are often the silent heroes—offering care under emotionally demanding circumstances, managing limited resources, and nurturing some of the most vulnerable children in our society. Despite the challenges, they show up each day with compassion, patience, and professionalism.

Throughout our visit, we were deeply moved by the conversations we had. The nurses reflected on their daily experiences and shared how acts of appreciation like this renew their strength and sense of purpose. It was also encouraging to hear how the Little Angels Respite Centre, which continues to serve as a haven within the hospital, is making a tangible difference in their work and the lives of the children.

At Little Angels Trust, we remain committed to standing not only with the children but also with the health professionals who care for them. Our appreciation day is just one of many steps we intend to take to ensure that their dedication is both seen and celebrated.

To every nurse, health officer, and staff member at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital’s Children’s Department—thank you. You are the hearts that heal. And we are forever grateful.
