The month of August 2025 was a very significant one for Little Angels Trust. We dedicated the entire month to shining a light on mental health in children, an area of advocacy that is deeply important to us and one that is often overlooked in our communities.
We began the month by celebrating Health Workers Appreciation Day at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, acknowledging the tireless efforts of health workers who dedicate their lives to caring for children and families navigating mental health challenges. This day was a moment to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for their work, which too often goes unrecognized but is indispensable in bringing healing and hope to vulnerable children.
We crowned the month with a very special celebration: the birthday of our cherished Patron, Madam Lawrencia, held at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital’s Respite Center. This was not only a birthday celebration but also a symbolic return to a place that she helped bring into existence. Years ago, Madam Lawrencia played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Respite Center at the hospital, a space designed to provide comfort, joy, and a sense of normalcy for children. The playground and center were envisioned as sanctuaries where children could laugh, play, and simply be children, even as they face the daily realities of mental health struggles.
The celebration itself was full of life, joy, and love. Children enjoyed food, drinks, music, and games, while caregivers and staff joined in the festivities. The atmosphere was one of genuine happiness, a reminder of how much a simple act of kindness can mean to a child who longs for care, dignity, and recognition. For Madam Lawrencia, it was a touching moment to see her vision for the Respite Center alive and being used for its purpose. For the children, it was a day of laughter and warmth that they will not easily forget.
For over twenty years, Little Angels Trust has been committed to advocating for children, especially those facing life-threatening illnesses and mental health challenges. Our work goes beyond financial support to include consistent acts of service—check-ins, hospital visits, and the sharing of gifts such as balloons, toys, lollipops, and food to brighten their days. Throughout August, our renewed focus on mental health at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital reaffirmed our belief that children deserve not to be marginalized or shunned but to be seen, supported, and given opportunities to thrive.
The birthday celebration at the Respite Center was more than just a joyful event. It was a call to action. It reminded us all of the importance of mental health advocacy, the power of community, and the need to expand projects like the Respite Center to reach more children.
As we look ahead, we remain steadfast in our mission: to bring hope, joy, and dignity to children battling cancer, mental health challenges, and other life-threatening illnesses. We cannot do this alone. With your support, we can continue to build safe spaces, provide essential care, and bring countless more smiles to the faces of these little angels.
We invite you to partner with us. Support us, volunteer with us, or donate to our projects. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children.
